With the retirement of approximately 70 million baby boomers and the anticipated demise of the United States’ Social Security Funds, many Americans who are in their 30s and 20s are already preparing for the worse when it comes to their retirement coffers.  As for me, I’m not worried. I’ve been preparing for quite sometime now. And now, funding my retirement has been simplified in 5 easy ways.

My preparation has gone through many tweakings and is still in need of more modifications. And I must admit that the process has been stressful at times. There have been many nights when I couldn’t sleep and days when I couldn’t eat and kept wondering why some of my sure bets are not performing the way they should. But regardless of the ups and downs of the market, watching my 5 retirement plans have indeed been memorable and for a lack of a better word, fun.

Before I divulged my 5 ways to fund my retirement, please understand that this plan is not meant for anyone but me. This unique method may not work for anyone but me. And bear in mind that I’m an educator and not a financial advisor. So read and proceed with caution.

Everything changes when you become a parent. Your days of throwing caution to the wind and your que sera sera attitude is over. When you become a parent, you become a caretaker of life or lives as in my case. Therefore, your selfish ways have to end and your selfless acts begin.

While I do not regret being a parent, there are things that I wish I had done before becoming one. Most of the things I wanted to do involved risks, risks that are too great to take as a life caretaker. And since now that I cannot do the things I wanted to do before I became a Daddy, I am going to enumerate them here in my blog and hopefully when my children are all grown up, I can revisit this list and finally fulfill my youthful dreams.

Feedburner, RSS Subscription, and Comments

May-28-2008
Wat Ever

Yesterday one of my children asked if I knew exactly how many people read my blog. I said I know for sure that there’s probably a good 20 regular readers, which include everyone in the house and my regular commentors. My page views doesn’t really tell the real story because some of the views are from search engines looking for updates.

My Feedburner and my RSS subscription doesn’t help either because it’s been 4 months now since I started blogging and it is still stuck at 4 subscribers.

I wanted to do something to find out exactly how many readers I get everyday.

I thought maybe if I buy one of those traffic analyzers then I can be sure of the numbers, but I decided not to because I’m too cheap and too broke to purchase it.

Maybe if I held a contest to see how many will subsrcibe to my blog then I would get a ballpark number, but I scrapped this idea because I’m too lazy to keep track of all the entries and other things that goes on with holding a contest.

I could just implore my readers to click on the little guy on the right hand corner with the orange rss button and subscribe to my feed but that’s not my style. I want people to subscribe out of their own volition and not because they are being cajoled to subscribe.

What I did though is that I took Barbara’s, from Blogging Without A Blog, advice. She told me to put Comment Luv, so I did; actually she just wrote about it and I took it as a personal advice. She said that this could increase my comments which means that I can get a better idea on how many actually read  my blog everyday. Barbara has given me a lot of blogging tips. Man, I wish I discovered her blog when I started blogging. Who knows where I would be by now?

Perhaps I shouldn’t worry about my blog traffic. I should just write good content and hopefully people will come and read and subscribe. But, sometimes it’s awesome to know that there are actually people reading my blog. And if I knew that a lot of people are actually paying attention to my writing then I would become an even better writer. You see, when I write, I always keep my audience in mind. I’m not the type to write just for myself, because if I did then I would just use a notebook instead of the internet to keep a journal.

Maybe the reason why I’m writing about this is because my mind is pre-occupied with work related stuff; which means I can’t concentrate enough to produce quality content. If this is the case, my content would be crap for the next couple of weeks because as a school administrator, the next couple of weeks will be hectic.

So I guess this post is just a filler. I can’t wait to get home when my best and worse critics get a hold of this post. I’m sure one of them will say, “Hmmm…nothing to write about, huh?”

And of course, I would say, “I got a lot of stuff to write about, there are all in here (pointing to my head).”

On a side note; this one is for Smiley Face.

“Sorry sweety, Daddy didn’t hit a homeroom today. This post is a dribbler back to the pitcher for an easy out.”

Be Thankful For What You Have

Car Chronicles

Last Friday on our way home, I noticed that the temperature was at 55 degrees.

“Man Smiley Face look at that temperature, it’s 55 degrees.”

Smiley Face said, “Where Daddy?”

“Up there on that billboard.”

“Well, let’s be thankful it’s not 54 or 53 degrees,” she said.

I shook my head and smiled.

Today, Tuesday, May 27, 2008, it’s around 50 degrees. Smiley Face was right. I should’ve been thankful when it was 55 degrees.

Sometimes I wonder who is the adult  in the car.

The Family Genius made this video as a Father’s Day gift but since I’m awesome at smelling surprises I discovered the video before they can give it to me. I pleaded to have it posted on my site so that I can show the world The Family Genius’ masterpiece.

Enjoy!
